Shape the regulatory frameworks that will define the future of the energy industry

 

As our Head of Regulatory Economics, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Cadent’s regulatory, commercial and market environment. This isn’t just about economics and analysis – it’s about influencing the future of price controls, developing innovative charging methodologies and helping create the regulatory frameworks that will support the transition to a low‑carbon energy system.

 

Working alongside the Director of Regulation and the wider Regulatory Strategy leadership team, you’ll provide expert economic insight, challenge and thought leadership to support Cadent’s long‑term strategy. You’ll lead the development of economic analysis that informs future price controls, customer charging methodologies and new regulatory frameworks for emerging technologies such as hydrogen, blended gases and heat networks.

 

This is a highly visible leadership role with regular engagement across Cadent’s Executive Committee, Board, Ofgem, Government departments and industry stakeholders. You’ll help shape decisions that influence over £1.5bn of annual regulated expenditure and the future direction of the energy sector.

What you’ll bring:

  • Regulatory Economics Expertise – Strong experience in regulatory economics, pricing, charging methodologies or economic analysis within a regulated environment.
  • Strategic Thinking – Ability to assess complex regulatory and commercial issues and translate them into practical business outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Influence – Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, regulators and industry bodies.
  • Commercial Acumen – Strong understanding of business drivers, economic principles and regulatory incentives.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills – Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly through reports, presentations and strategic papers.
  • Thought Leadership Capability – Confidence to challenge existing approaches and develop innovative solutions.
  • Relationship Building – Ability to build trusted relationships internally and externally to drive positive outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Economics (including econometrics), Regulation or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Equivalent practical experience gained within regulatory, economic, pricing or policy-focused roles will also be considered.
