Are you an experienced E&I professional ready to shape the future of energy infrastructure? Cadent is seeking a skilled Design Engineer with a strong background in Electrical and Instrumentation systems to lead the delivery of safe, compliant, and innovative design solutions across our Portfolio projects.
In this role, you’ll ensure all E&I design work is meticulously planned and executed, optimising resources and meeting delivery targets for internal and external stakeholders. You’ll take ownership of specialist services, applying your technical expertise to drive quality, safety, and performance throughout the full project lifecycle. From analysing complex issues to developing practical solutions, you’ll be trusted to lead with clarity and precision.
You’ll play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, influencing design strategy, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, Cadent policies, and specifications. Why You'll Love This Role:
- Ensure Design Compliance Across the Project Lifecycle Maintain adherence to all relevant legislation, Cadent policies, procedures, and specifications from concept through to completion, including Engineering Design Activity Schedules and formal safety assessments.
- Collaborate with Internal and External Stakeholders Liaise with Cadent Design Teams, contractors, third-party designers, and external agencies to promote consistency, compliance, and best practice in all design activities.
- Manage Design Governance and Documentation Oversee the registration and scope validation of GD/PM/G/17 Approvers and Appraisers, support contract documentation development, and ensure robust design change control and risk registers are implemented and monitored.
- Drive Safety, Quality, and Cyber Compliance Interface with the SHEQS Team to support CDM and technical audits, manage hazard reporting, and ensure all activities—including data handling—comply with safety, quality, and cyber security policies.
- Support Project Delivery and Handover Coordinate design progress meetings, maintain drawing registers, conduct technical inspections, and ensure timely delivery of accurate design information for commissioning, asset acceptance, and handover documentation.
What You'll Bring:
- Educational Background HNC/HND required; a relevant engineering degree is desirable.
- Professional Accreditation Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status preferred, along with IOSH certification and SCO AE & CP qualifications.
- Technical Experience 3–5 years of demonstrable experience in a technical or engineering role, ideally within the energy or utilities sector.
- Design & Safety Expertise Strong understanding of GD/PM/G/17 disciplines (Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, Cathodic Protection, Safety Engineering), including design approval and appraisal processes.
- Regulatory & Policy Knowledge Familiarity with Process Safety, Safety in Design, CDM Regulations 2015, Quality Management Systems, and Cadent-specific procedures (T/PM/HAZ suite, GD/PM/G/17, T/PM/G/35, T/PM/RE/18).
