Are you passionate about making work safer, smarter, and more human-centred? Do you believe that understanding how people interact with systems, environments, and processes is key to preventing harm and improving performance? We’re looking for a Human Factors Advisor to play a vital role in embedding human factors principles into our safety culture, systems, and decision-making, working closely with, supporting and reporting into our Human Factors Specialist. This is a unique opportunity to influence how we design work, manage operational risk, and support our people across the business, from frontline operations to strategic planning. You’ll help shape a workplace where human performance is understood, valued, and actively supported, driving improvements that make a real difference every day.

Why you will love this role

As a Human Factors Advisor, you’ll help shape a safer, smarter, and more human-centred workplace. You’ll work across teams to embed human factors principles into our safety culture, systems, and decision-making. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Drive human-centred safety by engaging directly with engineers and operational teams to apply human factors thinking to real-world challenges.
  • Support strategic programmes like “Safe+Well”, helping to design and implement initiatives that improve safety and wellbeing across Cadent and its partners.
  • Integrate human factors into the design and delivery of health and safety management systems, ensuring usability and effectiveness.
  • Promote a learning culture by embedding human factors into incident investigations and helping teams understand and mitigate human error.
  • Lead and support key projects on behaviour, culture, fatigue, and shift pattern design, with opportunities to take ownership of high-impact work.
  • Advise on emerging risks including fatigue management and other human performance challenges, ensuring swift adoption of best practice and legislation.
  • Deliver actionable insights through clear, evidence-based reports tailored to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across SHE and wider business teams to support continuous improvement and drive meaningful change.

What you will bring

  • Human Factors Expertise: Solid understanding of key principles, standards, and methods such as task analysis, human error and reliability assessment, fatigue management, and safety culture, applied within major hazard industries.
  • Safety Investigation Insight: Understanding of human factors and interest in applying them to safety investigations and improvement.
  • Project Delivery Skills: Ability to support safety projects with clear communication and outcome-focused contributions.
  • Effective Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Collaborative Approach: A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work across departments and disciplines to drive shared safety goals.
  • Continuous Improvement Focus: A proactive attitude toward learning, innovation, and embedding sustainable improvements in safety performance.
