Be at the heart of safety, standards and engineering excellence

Are you a trusted engineering expert who thrives on precision, safety, and delivering excellence? We're looking for an Authorising Engineer who’s ready to play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of our gas network.

This is more than a technical role. It’s an opportunity to influence how our network operates, support delivery teams with expert advice, and make key decisions that keep our people, customers and communities safe. If you're confident, collaborative, and bring both knowledge and curiosity to everything you do, we want to hear from you.

Why you’ll love this role:

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being at the centre of operational excellence and wants to make a real difference in how engineering standards are upheld. You’ll be trusted, valued and empowered to deliver work that keeps people safe and networks running smoothly.

  • Expert Influence – You’ll be the go-to authority for ensuring our engineering works meet the highest safety and compliance standards.
  • Strategic Visibility – You’ll work across teams and projects, influencing decisions and policies that shape our entire London network.
  • Autonomy & Ownership – You’ll lead the authorisation of critical non-routine operations, with the space to apply your judgement and expertise.
  • Diverse Challenges – No two days are the same. From inspections to investigations, your skills will be stretched and strengthened.
  • Culture of Safety & Excellence – Join a business that genuinely prioritises safety, values expertise, and is always looking to improve.

What you’ll bring:

We’re looking for someone who blends technical knowledge with sound judgement and a collaborative spirit. You’ll be confident in your expertise, comfortable advising others, and committed to doing things the right way.

  • Full UK Driving licence  - Essential, as you'll regularly travel to site across our Networks
  • A degree (or equivalent) in engineering plus Engineering Chartership or significant equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in gas engineering operations and relevant regulations (PSSR, PSR, EWR, COMAH, GS(M)R).
  • Practical experience in inspections, safety control processes and authorising engineering works (SCO 2/4/5).
  • An eye for detail, a commitment to safety, and a desire to influence best practice.
  • Great communication skills and confidence to advise and challenge constructively.
